TECHNICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS

INTENT—This award is intended for those technicians (ALAT, LAT, LATG) who have demonstrated a high level of excellence at their job level.  The award should consist of a plaque, procured and provided by the Southern Ohio Branch Council.

ELIGIBILITY—The nominee must currently hold the National AALAS certification at the level being nominated.  The nominee must be responsible for animals within his or her job function.  The position of the nominee must not exceed that of a area leader or unit supervisor.  If no nominee is deemed sufficiently qualified by the judges, no award will be given for the year.

EXCELLENCE IN LABORATORY ANIMAL SCIENCE AWARD

INTENT—This award is intended to recognize those who have experience past that of the LATG.  The award will consist of a plaque, procured and provided by the Southern Ohio Branch Council.

ELIGIBILTY—The nominee should be someone who has excelled in the field of laboratory animal science: animal facility managers, supervisors, researchers, administrators, veterinarians and others deemed qualified.  An individual may receive this award only one time.  If no nominee is deemed sufficiently qualified by the judges, no award will be given.

Criteria
A. Significant contribution to Lab Animal Science (Max 15 Points)
B. Contribution to AALAS (Max 15 Points)
C. Benefits to the nominee's place of employment (10 points)
D. Participation in outside activities (Max 10 Points)

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

INTENT—This is a career award to recognize those who have dedicated many years to laboratory animal science.  This award will consist of a plaque, procured and provided by the Southern Ohio Branch Council.

ELIGIBILTY—The nominee should have at least 15 years of significant, consistent dedication to and focus on laboratory animal science and the AALAS organization.  If no nominee is deemed sufficiently qualified by the judges, no award will be given.

Criteria
A. A minimum of 15 years in Lab Animal Science (Max 20 Points)
B. Contribution to AALAS (Max 15 Points)
C. Past or present participation in branch council (Max 15 Points)

RESEARCH'SUPPORT STAFF AWARD

INTENT—This award is intended for those individuals who have demonstrated a high level of research at the their institution.  This unique award is intended to honor those individuals who perform work which in fact preserves and/or enhances the quality of life of research animals.

ELIGIBILITY—The nominee should be someone who has excelled indirectly in a research discipline associated with laboratory animal science.  Examples of job functions in this award category may include, but are not limited to: necropsy staff, quality assurance auditors, animal enrichment support staff, laboratory animal secretarial support staff, animal research compliance, IACUC staffs, etc. 

The nominee may not be currently responsible for animals within his or her job function and may or may not be certified at one of the AALAS technical levels.  (If the individual is currently responsible for the care of animals, he/she is not eligible to be nominated in this award category).  The nominee must be an AALAS member at either the branch or national level.  If no nominee is deemed sufficiently qualified by the judges, no award will be given.

VENDOR AWARD

INTENT—This award is intended to recognize those vendors who have dedicated many years to laboratory animal science.  This award will consist of a plaque, procured and provided by the Southern Ohio Branch Council.

ELIGIBILITY—The vendor must be a member of the Southern Ohio Branch.  If no nominee is deemed sufficiently qualified by the judges, no award will be given.

Criteria
A. Active Participation with branch (Max 30 Points)
B. Active participation at the annual District 5 AALAS meeting in 3 of the last 5 years, such as participation in a round table discussion, having a vendor booth, or providing the meeting registration packets (Max 20 Points)
